Meeting Notes- January 2015

The Ripley Woman’s Club met on January 5, 2014 at the Union Township Public Library.

The meeting was called to order by the Vice President, Chandra Berry. There were eighteen members present. The December minutes were read by Secretary Melody Kokensparger and were approved by the members.

In old business, the names of the holiday door decorating contest were presented to members by Roberta Platt. Mike West won the Griswold award for his Virginia Street display and Dan and Jill Price won the prize for the Most Picturesque. Business awards went to Mike Pfeffer, Attorney at Law Office, Kim Stacy, Old Farm Primitives and Ripley Florist.

 Committee Reports were discussed following the old business.

Art Committee:

Rachael Bollman discussed the Raise the Roof Project, which is an incentive for donations for the American Mural Project. It is the largest indoor collaborative art work in the world. Lisa Haitz told the members that The Club Photo Contest will be finalized at the next meeting.

 Conservation Committee:

Carol Stivers told the members that the Ripley Women’s Club received a beautiful certificate from Health UC for participating in the Community Garden Project. Ms. Stivers also told the members that Polly Spiller is setting up a visit to the Recycling Center and further details on that visit would follow via email to members.

 Education Committee:

Kristi Scott reported that she sent postage to the high school principal for the purpose of helping students with sending out scholarship applications. Patty Dengler and Chandra Berry have taken over the Hobi Project. These women will be meeting with Aaron Flannery, the RHS guidance counselor, to present applications for this leadership conference to sophomore students. Carol Sue Stivers gave a party to the MH Class students who completed the Essay Contest, Plant a Seed and Change the World.

 Home Life Committee:

Chandra Berry introduced her Purses for the Women’s Crisis Center Project. The purses will be filled with items that could be used by women at the crises center.

 

Public Issues Committee:

Jane Zachman reported she is working with the American Legion Auxiliary to select a candidate for Buckeye Girl’s State Conference. Ms. Zachman showed the club members a replica of the table decorations that members will be making for the Veteran’s Home residents cafeteria tables for Valentine’s Day. January 21 at 1:00 was set for members to meet at Ms. Zachman’s home to create the table decorations.

 

Membership Committee:

Harriett Jackson encouraged RWC members to write an essay about a woman who inspired them for the Ohio Federation of Women’s Club’s contest.

 

The meeting was adjourned and member Kristi Scott gave a demonstration of Yoga/Pilates and the benefits one receives from practicing these exercises.

 

Roberta Platt and Cathy Griffith were the hostesses and they served a very healthy fare to inspire members for the new year!

The next meeting will be conducted on February 2, 2015.
